MAKING POTABLE WATER FROM THE AIR
MAKING POTABLE WATER FROM THE AIR MAKING POTABLE WATER FROM THE AIR All the large military organizations of the world have machines that actually make pure, drinkable water from the air. The technology for doing this is not anything new, but the efficiency of the machines keeps improving, and the cost of creating a gallon of pure water from the air using electricity and a lot of machinery is now down to a few pennies a gallon. If M. and I had a scant $70,000.00 to throw at the problem of no water on this desert, we could purchase a commerical machine that is capable of making 600 to 800 gallons of pure water from our air, using regular house current to do the job. Such a machine would probably save us money, because we now buy our drinking water from the grocery store at about a dollar a gallon...(and carrying those eight pound bottles of drinking water from our car into the house each time we go shopping gets old!). I'm sure that at sometime in the future, the way technology has been going at breakneck speed, such water producing machines will be common.. I keep shopping the Internet, and if a machine comes online for a couple of thousand dollars that produces five or ten gallons a day of good tasting drinkable water, and that uses only a few hundred Watts of electricity to power it, I would probably go for it... I'm sorry that I couldn't find any pictures to place with this post... I'll keep looking.. by david stardust...Friday, July 24th, 2015. |

My mind wouldn't let go of the concept last night and I expanded the concept. If it worked above ground for the creosote bush, it will work. I thought of adding a cistern for collection as well. It's a similar principle to the geothermal I use for the house. A backhoe would be a big help. I'll post a few pictures of that rock pile in the next couple of days.. Meanwhile, thanks always for your imput...

If you took that warm humid air and pumped it through an underground pipe it might cool it enough to reach the dew point. It would depend upon the subsurface soil temperature, but it might work with a bit of tweaking. Years ago--probably about 20 years ago-- I piled a pretty large mound of stones next to a dying creosote bush in my lower acres to furnish the bush with the water that gathered through condensation from the pile of stones to keep the bush supplied with water. The bush is still flourishing, and if I remember to do it, I'll snap a photo of the stones and the bush and put it on this blog to give you a look... dave

The guys on The Weather Channels Brainstormers built one out of an old room dehumidifier for a guy in Cali so he could water his plants. They did drink some of it without any apparent ill effects. AB

So you are saying the Tourist Bureau is fibbing about "Yes it gets hot but it is dry all the time and seems cooler." is not precisely true? The Dastards!

they make small one gallon distillers that only cost about 100 bucks... of course you have to have some water to put in it first which does not help if you have none... but if you have a well or something it would work.

Still, the one limiter of those machines is that the air has to have water in it and your area is noted for the dryness of your air.
