laughter is the best.............
laughter is the best............. had to go to an insurance seminar today on worker's comp.......i know.....mind bogglingly dull. one of the presenters is a very quiet man who has absolutely no presence in a group. one on one he sold me on this program...but in a group...he gives new meaning to the term milquetoast. so...he's up there for half an hour, followed by this dynamic little dude from, the state talking about CORI stuff and this OT group trying to get . i get a 10% discount on insurance which is why we were there.....and they had a damn good pasta salad...... now, the afternoon lady is talking about stress reduction and resilience in the workplace. my facilities manager was there. he does great work but is the kind of employee that impacts his environment profoundly. if Frank ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. he is however very intuitive and can spot a phony a mile away. we're all sitting with out eyes closed, rolling our shoulders and deep breathing and i hear a muffled snork. i open one eye and there he is, caught up in the "this is a funeral you idiot" laughter that cannot be denied. he was literally shaking the table in front of him my hr person leans over and says......stop it. oh......like that's gonna help....and another strangled laugh squeaks out. at this point, half the room is peeking and oen by one they fall prey to the hilarity..........and laughter fills the room. the speaker was red as a beet...definitely very stressed and Frank says....hey, laughter is a great stress reducer........sets the room off again and the stress queen turns a darker shade...sort of like cordovan leather and there is no stopping the waves of giggles and guffaws. okay, so maybe it wasn't nice but it felt good and even the insurance types were chuckling. she flips to the next slide which says, of course.....laughter is the best medicine....and we're gone.......utterly, hopelessly gone....with not a chance in the world that any of us will get back to charts and graphs and the 21 things you do to gain resilience. the leader........the little quiet dude, goes to the front of the room and we all try to harness the laughter but it isn't working and he can't either and he says.......so go...............go. and we did i took a brownie on the way out....just to decrease my stress...yanno? You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

Any seminar that finishes early is a good seminar!

you know it's good when even the "insurance types" are chuckling.

This is a lesson for all of us. If you're sitting in a seminar, thinking, 'This is ridiculous', most likely everyone else is too! Subvert the occasion! Mass rebellion!

Ah, the nightmare of the presentation being torpedoed.....It would have done her good to go right along and use the laughter as part of the presentation, then go back to the guided imagery exercise....but, I would never use guided imagery in a first session or public seminar....way too high risk that someone would torpedo the whole thing.....but, amusing none the less.

You got my vote on this one. Laughter is needed every day. Without it this would be a really tense place.
