i love me some bloggerfield
i love me some bloggerfield lately he's just making me laugh and laugh. today he was blogging on the things (and parents) say that make you cringe. and i was thinking back on some of the moments with my and i can't really think of any cringing moments but i remember an afternoon when he taught me a huge lesson. he was nearly four and he was a cute little guy. very curious and very talkative. we were heading into boston to a museum and were on a subway car. a woman got onto the car and sat next to us. she had very severe burns on her face and neck. and she sat quietly and everyone on the car made a point not to stare. my shimmied over next to her and placed his hands on her face. now imagine a toddlers voice. does it hurt? no, not anymore. it did when it happened. he nodded and showed her his skinned knee. she nodded and touched it gently. yours is way more. yes. will it go away? no, it's gone away as much as it can. you look like this. yes. his hands roamed over her face and she sat still and calm as he touched her. i was there to stop him but her eyes told me no, this was okay, he was allowed. it's not like my skin. no, it's bumpy isn't it. yes and sometimes it has holes. yes. she stood, ready to get off. shook his hand and said goodbye. my name is ###. my name is zach. bye zach. bye. hey. yes? she turned to look at him. i like it. what? your face. she smiled and walked away. he settled back in next to me and was quiet for a minute then he said, can i get skin like that mama? everyone around us had to clear their throats. my saw special. all we saw was disfigured. when does that change...because it does. You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

yup. there's a point where the culture of politely ignoring creates more problems than it solves, IMHO. She knew she had nasty burn scars; you all knew she had nasty burn scars - but 'politeness' demanded you not recognize them. thank gods for kids.

I wish that part of a child never, ever changed. "All you'll get from strangers is surface pleasantry or indifference. Only someone who loves you will criticize you." - Judith Crist, crack film critic

His outside changed, Wicked, but I think his inside has not changed ... he still is that gentle soul. You taught him well, I think. hugs to you Chas

Children can be so curious and so candid. All of you were given a glimpse of his mind and his heart that day. Lovely! Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones

What a beautiful story! It seems that some children are born knowing. Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale Her infinite variety. Other women cloy The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry Where most she satisfies. For vilest things Become themselves in her, that the holy priests Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra
