a stolen moment
a stolen moment one of my programs is housing for homeless veterans. yesterday the program director came to me - three of the men had used an axe to break into the office, stole a large screen TV that was going to be hung in the common room, a computer and generally destroyed whatever else was there. we have them on tape and we have two eye witnesses. the police arrested them but they are all out on bail already and to my amazement two of them came back and were found sleeping in their rooms and were surprised when we told them they had to leave. we have a man "a" in this same program who is russian and has managed to stay sober for 9 months. in the last two weeks, his depression has deepened. finally, he shared the cause with his counselor. the three thieves were tormenting him. calling him names, handing him vodka bottles to tempt him. making fun of his accent. telling him he was a dirty russian. calling him a gimp because he had lost a foot. part of me was willing to take the three guys back into emergency shelter until i heard this. then we were cleaning out R's room and found "a"'s prosthesis. did they think they could sell that too? or was that just for fun? i have issued a trespass warrant on all three if they step on agency property. and after two hours we found "a" and gave him his foot back. the police are coming in today to meet with guests to let them know that they are there to help them, protect them. i hope that helps but i know that no one feels safe right now. not even sure why i am writing about this other than my need to drop it somewhere so it doesn't poison the well. You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

For all the work people to do support, empower, and solidify the rights of others who perhaps can't do it for themselves, some senseless act just serves to make things crumble. The faint of heart don't last long in your field; it's why we constantly need to support our social service workers....and that's a whole new conversation entirely. Men are from Earth, women are from Earth. Deal with it." ~~ Carlin ♫ Boston, you know I love you madly..... ♫

Good grief - what some people will do! We should all take the time to realize how blessed we really are. See Ya! cowboywanted2day

If they were homeless, how'd they get out on bail? They should be glad they were "Vets". If they were still on active duty, they'd probably have been breakin' rocks for a few years, down at Leavenworth. Solar...

precious, You always step up to the plate. I am proud of your decisions. Of course the local rags have to get involved. I love the words, more better *w* although it is politically incorrect. I don't know how you do it. Yogi hit the nail on the head, "you care" ... I love you because you do. I have missed you darling. It's been a long road but know I'm never far. I know it's the same for you. *hugs* After all the sex is gone, there is the mind - Lady Hunter / BAB Copyright © House of Lady Hunter 1998-2009
