things that go bump in the night
things that go bump in the night there is a lot going on for me at the moment and my stress level is pretty high. i'm not sleeping well at all and find myself awake for a lot of those wee hours from 2-5 AM. last night i went to sleep at midnight but woke up in a full fledged panic at 2:30 - heart racing, cold sweat and gasping for air. i did my breathing exercise until i slowed down and then laid back on the pillow. the first noise sounded like someone at my front door which is a flight down and at the opposite side of the house. i listened carefully and dismissed it. then i heard the sound of footsteps under my window. i live in a fairly tightly woven neighborhood so that's not so unusual except for the hour. i peeked out the window which was open to catch the breezes and heard more steps but couldn't see anyone. back to bed. now i hear my downstairs tenant snoring. and their cat on the porch trying to get back in - that low cat sound always makes me cringe. turn on the reading lamp and try to divert myself with a very readable mystery about the "blue nowhere" of cyberspace. the window in my living room crashes closed. wtf.... i start to drift around 3:30 and i'm almost there when the birds start up. i'm a big fan of birdsong and i love the first tentative wake up chirps......but not now....not now, please. and then the phone rings. i spring up to get it - adrenaline pumping. no one there. wtf. about 5 i manage to slide into sleep but at 7:30 the idiot next door starts mowing his lawn. yes, he has every right to do so but at 7:30 on a bloody Saturday? wtf. so now, at 1 in the afternoon, i've done all my laundry, cleaned the bathrooms, vacuumed, taken a walk in a nature reserve, had lunch with my and finished three sudoku puzzles and my mystery. my Man is sick so no Saturday night fever. sighs........... killing time is more difficult when you wake up early. this day stretches out like some endless piece of highway. and even now, i'm thinking i won't sleep again tonight - i know, i know, self fulfilling prophecy. yawns and wanders off......... You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

It's probably your serotonin level in your brain (stress will affect that, as well as your diet.) The best thing is to alter your diet... but that takes some period of time to have the desired effect. You still should do it. I can give you the "recipe" - and no, it ain't tube-steak! In the meantime, take some melatonin (look it up on the net), which you can get at most any pharmacy or health-food store - OTC. Then, after you've gotten your diet straight, you can tapper off the melatonin. Melatonin is a "hormone" derived from the natural breakdown of serotonin. The melatonin regulates your circadian 24 hour rhythm. They use it to treat insomnia. But, like I said - change your diet! Solar...

hope you get some sleep soon, WE. Not sleeping makes the not sleeping worse!!! LOL! relaxation techniques...exercise...hot bath...write stuff down, get it out of your head before you go to bed, even if you never do anything with it, write it down...make lists about nothing, it is amazing how focusing like that can still your mind and allow you some peace to sleep "All you'll get from strangers is surface pleasantry or indifference. Only someone who loves you will criticize you." - Judith Crist, crack film critic
